Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs

From teralynnchilds.com:

Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it's not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you're a normal teenage girl, but when you're half human, half mermaid, like Lily, there's no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily's mermaid identity is a secret that can't get out, since she's not just any mermaid—she's a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn't feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she's been living on land and going to Seaview High School ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems—like her obnoxious biker-boy neighbor, Quince Fletcher—but it has that one major perk: Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren't really the casual dating type—the instant they "bond," it's for life.

When Lily's attempt to win Brody's love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily ever after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

Tera Lynn Child's has crafted a series about Greek gods and now she is at it again, except this time it's mermaids. It's not your run-of-the-mill Little Mermaid story either.

I had no idea what to expect from this story about a mermaid. Sounds crazy for a teen book, right? Well it was absolutely fantastic! You're grabbed right from the start and want to find out what happens to Lily next. She creates schemes to win Brody, but the annoying boy-next-door, Quince, seems to always get in the way. Soon she has to go back to Thalassinia though because one scheme went horribly wrong.

Lily is a wonderful character and she is easy to relate to. She makes the same mistakes many teen girls do today and you'll be able see a bit of yourself in her. The story is as believable as any story about a mermaid can get. You'll actually feel like you are apart of the Thaslassinia kingdom! So, don't worry about it sounding like a kids book.

It is a story about friendship, family, love, obsession, and a magical kingdom. This is Tera Lynn Childs' third book and is just as wonderful as the other two.

Someday ;)
